Partick Thistle star Scott Martin looked down at his left leg and counted over 40 reasons to be fearful. One for each of the staples holding his knee together after an innocuous challenge put an altogether more serious dent in his fledgling Partick Thistle career.
What happened?
Just 12 minutes into his fifth appearance for the Jags following a deadline day move from Hamilton last January, the midfielder was being stretchered off and about to be told he could be sidelined for 18 months.
The injury
A coming together with a Queen’s Park defender in a Championship clash at Hampden had resulted in Martin suffering a devastating posterolateral corner (PLC) injury. That included tearing his ACL, rupturing his LCL and damaging his meniscus. On top of all that he also had a depressed fracture in his leg.
Road to recovery
Considering that was exactly the length of deal he’d just signed at Firhill, the stress was understandable. Not to mention the pain. As of now, Partick Thistle is standing at 2nd in the Championship with 66 points, having played 36 games with a recent form of DDDWD.
