Partick Thistle and St Mirren played out a 1-1 draw at Firhill in the first leg of their Scottish Premiership play-off final. Killian Phillips opened the scoring for St Mirren in the 39th minute, but Aidan Fitzpatrick equalized for Partick Thistle in the 62nd minute. The match was an intense and open affair, with both teams creating chances. Phillips had a couple of early efforts blocked, while Fitzpatrick curled a shot just past the post. St Mirren's Ross Sinclair made a good save to deny Alex Samuel, and Josh Clarke saved a low drive from Phillips. The second leg will be played at St Mirren's home ground on Monday. Partick Thistle will be looking to build on their strong performance, while St Mirren will be hoping to use their home advantage to win the tie. Mark Wilson's men will be confident after giving as good as they got against the visitors. Craig McLeish's team may believe they can win the tie at home, but Partick Thistle has lost out in the play-offs in the last four years and will have plenty to say about that. The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill was packed with 8,323 fans, who witnessed a thrilling match. The tie is poised ahead of the second leg, with both teams giving their all in search of the winner. Phillips got the goal he clearly coveted when he took a pass from Mikael Mandron inside the Partick Thistle box and stabbed the ball past Clarke. However, just before the break, Jags captain Lee Ashcroft passed up a great chance to level when he headed a Fitzpatrick corner past the post from six yards. Ts'oanelo Lets'osa replaced Logan Chalmers for the start of the second half as Wilson tweaked his side and battle recommenced. There was a scare for the home side when Mandron dispossessed the ponderous Clarke inside the box as he dallied in possession but when the ball fell to midfielder Allan Campbell, his lob was yards wide of the target. On the hour mark, Fitzpatrick's attempted pass back from distance was intercepted by Mandron but his shot was straight at Clarke. However, the Thistle wide man made up for that misjudgement when he calmly converted Tony Watt's cross from the right, which found him unmarked 14 yards from goal. The match ended all square, and the tie will be decided in Paisley on Monday night.
